About the Organization
The European Left Alliance for the People and the Planet (ELA) is a European political party that brings together green, left, and feminist parties with the goal of building a new Europe—one based on cooperation, social progress, workers’ rights, peace, solidarity, equality, climate justice, environmental protection, and sustainable development.
ELA was officially founded in September 2024 by seven political parties committed to these shared values.
Position Overview: Programme and Communication Officer
The Programme and Communication Officer of ELA – for the People and the Planet will play a central role in building ELA’s platform, organizing events, and strengthening cooperation among ELA’s member parties.
This role involves ensuring the successful organization of ELA events and coordinating strategic activities among member organizations. Responsibilities include supporting the organising of national ELA events, support any thematic policy work and help organize statutory meetings such as the ELA Board meetings, General Assembly, and Congress.
On the communications side, the officer will be responsible for developing and implementing an internal and external communications strategy. This includes managing ELA’s website and social media accounts, creating compelling content, and ensuring coherent and consistent messaging.
The Programme and Communication Officer will work closely with the Secretary General, as well as with the other members of the Executive (Co-Chairs, Treasurer) to implement the direction set by the Political Board and Congress.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Support
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of ELA projects and activities, as defined by the General Assembly, Board, and Executive.
- Organize events, workshops, and campaigns to promote ELA’s mission and values.
- Support member parties in organizing ELA events at the national level.
- Draft documents and assist the Secretary General and Executive in preparing internal meetings, including Board meetings, General Assemblies, and Congresses.
Communications
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with ELA’s political goals.
- Manage ELA’s communication platforms, including the website, Bluesky, and any other relevant channels identified by the members.
- Produce and edit content for newsletters, press releases, reports, and social media.
- Coordinate media outreach and build relationships with journalists and media organizations.
Qualifications and Profile
We are looking for a candidate with a relevant educational background, but special consideration will be given to individuals with strong professional and movement-based experience.
- Demonstrated experience in working with political parties and/or in political communication and/or experience in working with NGOs, grassroots movements, or civil society organizations.
- Proven ability to work effectively in an international and intercultural environment.
- High proficiency in English; knowledge of additional European languages is an asset.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic setting.
- Good understanding of social media algorithms and how to optimize content for maximum reach and engagement across all popular platforms.
