The European Left Alliance expresses its full support and solidarity with Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

We strongly condemn the French government’s call for her resignation, based on disinformation, false and manipulated material that deliberately distorts her words. The French authorities know these accusations rely on a misleading montage, yet they have chosen to amplify it. The French government is, by this dishonest move, aligning itself with Trump´s dangerous agenda undermining international law.

This is a political attack on a UN mandate-holder. It is an attempt to deliberately distort the rule of law, undermine international accountability, and silence those who document grave violations of international humanitarian law.

This attack is part of a wider international pattern: from Trump imposing unilateral coercive measures against Francesca Albanese and officials of the International Criminal Court, to the German Foreign Affairs Minister claiming that her remarks are inappropriate and that her position is untenable.

They should stop targeting UN experts, protect the independence of the United Nations, and support international justice without double standards. They must stop shooting the messenger and instead put their political efforts into demanding that Israel respect international law.

We stand with Francesca Albanese. We stand with international law.

We also call on all citizens across Europe to sign our European Citizens’ Initiative “Justice For Palestine”, to end EU complicity with Israel’s violations of human rights.
