A feminist revolution advances through the reactionary storm: the European Left Alliance marches on the international day for women’s rights

On the international day for women’s rights, members of the European Left Alliance march in mobilisation all across Europe - from Lisbon to Warsaw, from Paris to Helsinki.

Women’s rights and gender equality are at the heart of the dystopian storm driven by far-right leaders such as Trump, Musk, Putin, Orban, Milei and their allies. The anti-feminist agenda and the push for a return to patriarchal repression — both in the home and the public sphere — have rarely been more threatening.

The erosion of abortion rights and reproductive freedoms, cuts to development aid for women, girls, and LGBTQI+ people, attacks on healthcare systems, the increased precariousness of women workers, reductions in social security systems, and the rise of racist policies are having devastating effects on the lives of women and girls, both across Europe and globally.

Countering the Backlash with a Feminist Agenda

The most effective way to resist patriarchal attacks is by advancing our own political agenda. The European Left Alliance for the People and the Planet, representing forces from seven EU member states, stands for a feminist revolution. We are uniting to resist the reactionary backlash and fight for new rights, including:

  • Ending violence against women and girls, as well as all forms of patriarchal violence (including violence against LGBTQI+ people)
  • Strengthening women’s rights in the labor market and ending exploitation
  • Defending strong social rights and ensuring welfare state structures that are accessible to all
  • Guaranteeing the right to abortion and reproductive health
  • Defending the rights of migrant women and girls

On 8 March, we gather and mobilize for our rights. But as left-wing progressive political parties deeply committed to the feminist struggle, we know that the feminist revolution is not a one-day affair. The European Left Alliance is here to fight patriarchy and pursue our feminist agenda every day, 365 days a year!
