Join the European Left Alliance for a two-day gathering on building a common future: from climate crisis to resilience in Europe. Over two days, you will hear from experts from across the EU and work together with peers, creating the collective Handbook to Change a Burning World.
Between the climate crisis and war, the erosion of social rights and the rising cost of living, the digital and the territorial abandonment, we feel the impact of the storms that shape our times. Witnessing destruction is not a plan of action. It is urgent to rebuild a common project on more solid and just foundations.
The European Left Alliance believes the future is not decreed — it is built. We know storms have no borders and that we grow through bonds of solidarity. We want to weave experiences and struggles together, learning from those who, across Europe, are designing alternatives for a better future.
“The future is not decreed — it’s built.”

Workshop 1: Popular Ecology and Popular Resistance
Popular Ecology and Popular Resistance
Defending the common good, now and for the future
The climate crisis exposes the consequences of decades of predatory exploitation, the commodification of nature and the destruction of the landscape. Today, at European and global level, these dangers are being amplified by the insatiable appetite of the techno-oligarchs and by a new wave of extractivism under the banner of “strategic autonomy”, within a growing logic of war economy and militarisation. But resistance is there, demanding a different future.
Resistance unites people in networks of contestation that refuse to be guinea pigs for green extractivism, digital extractivism or tourist speculation. From Montalegre to the Jadar Valley, in Lapland as in Spanish Extremadura, in Sines or in Dublin, communities are organising against lithium mining, the unregulated proliferation of mega solar or wind power plants, the energy appetite of big tech capital, and property-driven tourist occupation. Popular ecology asserts itself by fighting the destruction of the landscape, refusing to let territories be plundered, and demanding the protection of the commons (such as water, energy, land, territory and data sovereignty) and their return to public and community control, refusing to let the continent be shaped by warlike or corporate priorities or by the commodification of tourism.
In cities, the fight against the climate emergency and property speculation is also a decisive front of transnational resistance. From Lisbon to Berlin, the housing crisis and energy poverty affect millions of people, while financial markets and international funds profit from touristification. Building liveable cities requires channelling public investment into accessible, safe and comfortable housing, free public transport, energy retrofitting and green infrastructure. From the countryside to the city, popular alternatives are joining forces across borders to change the system, defend peace, reclaim the commons and give the territory back to the people.
Questions for the Summit:
1) Halting the plunder of the territory: How can resistance networks strengthen communities and halt the logic of “sacrifice zones” and extractivism, ensuring that decisions respect those who inhabit the landscape?
2) Defending rural areas and the commons: What models of community management and transnational alliances should we mobilise to protect water, land and forests against privatisation and extractivism, placing the rural world and the management of the commons at the heart of a just, communal transition in ecological balance?
3) Urban planning for the right to the city: How can we reconfigure urban life and the governance of our territories to free cities from mass touristification, the grip of financial speculation and digital surveillance, imagining spaces designed for collective well-being, solidarity and a shared sense of belonging?
Workshop 2: Eco-Social State in the EU
Eco-Social State in the EU
Rebuilding Public Services, Caring for Life and Protecting Labour
Our relationship with the planet is fundamentally mediated through work. It is also through work that ecological impacts and social risks are distributed in a profoundly unequal way. Added to this vulnerability is the advance of Artificial Intelligence and digitalisation without democratic control, which is reorganising work, threatening jobs, and concentrating ever more power and wealth in the hands of big capital. Faced with this double rupture, defending the Social State requires its evolution into an Eco-Social, ecofeminist State focused on protecting people’s incomes and lives.
Adapting public services to the times we live in means rebuilding healthcare, public education and social security, but also reshaping our response to environmental shocks. Civil Protection can no longer depend on volunteer-based, precarious or reactive relief in the face of extreme storms and wildfires: it must be affirmed and funded as a universal, professional and structural public service, equipped with the human and material means to prevent risks, manage disasters, and protect the territory and its people on an ongoing basis.
At the same time, placing the sustainability of life at the centre of the economy requires a feminist commitment that lifts the work of social reproduction out of invisibility and precariousness. The proposed National Care Service, public, universal and free of charge, aims to guarantee support for dependent care and childcare and to free women from the burden of unpaid work. Rebuilding the Social State and creating a new pillar of care are measures inseparable from the defence of employment and decent work. In the face of old and new threats, there is a growing demand for protection against hyper-intensive work rhythms and technological and climate-driven unemployment. In a just transition, no one is left behind.
Questions for the Summit:
1) Public services for these times: How should we strengthen and update the National Health Service, public education, Civil Protection and other public services so that they can guarantee a universal response to today’s environmental and social crises?
2) Care as part of the Social State: How can we ensure care in a collective and solidarity-based way across the different stages of life, guaranteeing shared responsibility, emancipatory responses and the recognition of care work?
3) Employment and a Just Transition: What labour rights and protection mechanisms against climate- and technology-driven unemployment should we mobilise to ensure decent work, reskilling and social justice in the ecological transition?
Workshop 3: Feminism, Democracy and Solidarity across the EU
Feminism, Democracy and Solidarity across the EU
Alliances against hatred and pathways to Peace.
The climate crisis is inseparable from a deep crisis of democracy. Faced with the far right’s attempt to turn ecological uncertainty into fear, hatred, walls and the militarisation of borders, we affirm solidarity, rights and dignified reception as a non-negotiable response. Those who have contributed least to the climate emergency are those who suffer most from its impacts. We reject “Fortress Europe”, arbitrary detention and the outsourcing of borders, affirming the reception of people displaced by climate, war or poverty as an ethical, human and demographic duty.
Democratic resistance requires building bridges between the various emancipatory struggles: from labour rights to ecofeminism and anti-racism, through the defence of culture, the demand for time to live, the protection of the public pension and social security system, and an unwavering commitment to peace, international law, multilateralism and strict respect for the self-determination of peoples. However, the deepening of democracy today faces a new and formidable adversary: the alliance between political authoritarianism, the war economy and the global techno-oligarchs. The private appropriation of data, algorithmic control of social networks, the opacity of Artificial Intelligence systems, and the monopolisation of energy and water by speculative infrastructure threaten to suppress popular sovereignty, misinform public opinion, and subjugate working people to corporate control.
Defending democracy means deepening it radically: bringing together social, labour and peace struggles with the democratisation of the media, technological transparency and popular participation.
Questions for the Summit
1) Alliances between emancipatory struggles: How can we build alliances between ecofeminist, anti-racist, migrant-rights, labour-rights, intergenerational solidarity and peace movements to halt the far right’s offensive?
2) Fighting the techno-oligarchs and sovereignty over the commons: How should popular and democratic forces organise themselves to confront the opacity of the techno-oligarchs and technological militarisation, reclaiming energy, water and data infrastructure for public, community-based, transparent and peace-oriented control?
3) Democratisation of the media and digital networks: What public policies are needed to combat disinformation, the algorithmic amplification of hate speech, and ownership concentration in the media and digital platforms, so as to guarantee a plural, transparent public space that serves free information?
